THE TEXAS COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD

 

CRITERIA

 

The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM) Distinguished Alumnus Award was established to honor TCOM graduates who have made distinguished contributions to society and whose accomplishments and careers have brought credit to the school.

 

ELIGIBILITY 

 

To be considered for the award, the individual must (in no particular order):

 

1.      have graduated from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine

 

2.      be distinguished in his/her career and must have received some previous recognition from contemporaries

 

3.      have been active in professional organizations

 

4.      have provided service to mankind in accordance with the highest standards, traditions, and ideals of the science and art of healing

 

5.      have participated in leadership roles within his/her community and professional organizations

 

6.      have demonstrated through deed and action, the importance of his/her education at TCOM.

 

It is the general policy that each nominee may be considered for selection for as many as three (3) years, provided he/she was not selected in the previous two years and remained eligible for selection according to the guidelines.

 

INELIGIBILITY

 

An individual shall be ineligible to receive the award if any of the following conditions exist at the time of nomination:

 

  1. if he/she is candidate for public office

 

2.     is he/she is a member of the board of directors of the TCOM Alumni Association

 

NOMINATION PROCESS

 

Any individual who meets the following criteria may nominate former students for the award:

 

  1. any TCOM graduate

 

  1. any member of the University of North Texas health Science Center at Fort Worth faculty or staff
  2. any board of directors member

 

4.    any member of the Distinguished Alumnus Selection Committee

 

 

NUMBER OF AWARDS

 

The Selection Committee shall select no more than two individuals in any one year. At least one award will be conferred each year, unless that committee feels there is some compelling reason not to select a recipient.

 

SELECTION COMMITTEE

 

The Distinguished Alumnus Selection Committee shall be chaired by a member of the board of directors and, additionally, shall be composed of another representative to the board of directors, at least two other alumni, and the Executive Director of the TCOM Alumni Association.

 

The committee shall have full responsibility for reviewing the nominations, establishing the eligibility of the nominees, and selecting the recipients, upon the majority vote of the total membership of the committee.

 

RECOGNITION OF RECIPIENTS

 

The Selection Committee shall determine the time and place of the recognition dinner for all recipients and will also determine the type of plaque or other symbol that will acknowledge the prestige of the award.
